Peanut Butter Banana Protein Oatmeal

Yesterday after work I met up with Claire one last time before she headed back to California. We were sitting in Bryant Park when our 3rd roommate from college walks by. We could not believe the 3 of us, well 4 (Elliott), would run into each other at such a random place and time! Claire just so happened to be visiting, and I just so happened to be meeting up with her, and Lanna just so happened to be walking out of work and through the park. We were all kind of in awe and also so excited to see each other again. The three of us haven’t been together in years. We lived in a small apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan during college with Claire’s little Elliott!

Claire, Lanna, and I (above), talked for about 30 minutes until we all had to go our own ways. At that point, I was starvin’ marvin’ so I headed back to the dirty Jerz, stopped at Joe’s restaurant to see what was going on, and then headed to Garden of Eden to pick up a quick dinner because I couldn’t bear the thought of cooking while my tummy was growling that much. I ended up bringing home a turkey burger and brussel sprouts from the hot bar and added my own cheese, ketchup, and Nayonaise. I scarfed it down immediately.

I give this four thumbs up (I’ll have to use my toes). It’s all natural and only 30 calories per serving compared to 70 for regular hummus. Obviously the “kid approved” part caught my eye. My love for pizza and hummus is combined at last. Some turkey burger bites were dipped in this. I then washed it all down with this enormous ooey gooey cookie that Claire gave me from Levain Bakery on the Upper West Side.

Ummmm! That thing was the size of three cookies combined. The picture is about 1/4 of it, because I was so nice as to leave Joe a bite.

Today

Joe and I woke up around 8:30 and headed to the gym. I had intentions of getting up earlier because I have so much to get done today. Oh well. Joe had me do a new upper body routine and by the time I was done I was sweaty, sore and shaking.

Shoulders (7.5 lb dumbbell per arm for all, 1 min rest between all 4)

  • Military Presses: 3 sets of 15-20 reps, 10 seconds in between
  • Front Shoulder Raises: 3 sets of 15-20 reps, 10 seconds
  • Side Shoulder Raises: 3 sets of 15-20 reps, 10 seconds
  • Sitting Flys (5 lb dumbbells): 3 sets of 15-20 reps, 10 seconds
Back (55 lbs. on machine, 1 min rest between each exercise)
 
  • Lat Pull Downs (behind head): 8 sets, 18-25 reps, 10 seconds in between
  • Close Grip Front Lat Pull Downs: 6 sets, 15-25 reps, 10 seconds
Chest (10 lb. dumbbell per arm)
 
  • Laying on Incline Flys: 6 sets, 15-20 reps, 10 seconds in between

After that I did tricep raises (behind head) and bicep curls as I normally do, but I was already feeling it in my shoulder, back, and chest! I completed 25 minutes on the elliptical and an ab workout as well.

As soon as we got home we were both starving. I cooked us up both some protein oatmeal. I made mine this way:

Peanut Butter Banana Protein Oatmeal

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2 tbsp. chia seeds (they make it nice and fluffy)
  • 1 banana, cut into pieces
  • cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • drop of honey
  • peanut butter
  • drop of vanilla extract
  • 1 scoop Vanilla SunWarrior protein powder

Bring the oats, milk, salt, and chia seeds to a boil. Add in cinnamon, vanilla extract, and honey as you prefer (to taste). Add in half of the banana slices and whip it up. Add in the protein powder when it’s pretty much fully cooked. You might need to add some water if it gets too thick. Drop in a bowl and top with remaining banana slices and drizzle peanut butter all over!

After fueling up, I was then determined to start knocking stuff off of my to-do list. I started with laundry, which was 90% gym clothes. It’s amazing how much laundry accumulates in one week. I guess both of us wear like 3 outfits a day though. It felt like forever to fold it all!

I like to prep as soon as I get home to get it over with. I marinated chicken to grill later for lunch next week, chopped up bananas to freeze for smoothies, and cut into the watermelon.

A few bites were consumed.

Still on my list: more laundry, a mani/pedi, TJMaxx (for some odds and ends, such as bowls and place mats to make prettier picture for you guys!), get a gift for a bridal shower tomorrow, and take my bridesmaids dress to get fixed (thinking 6pm on Saturday is too late for that, Monday it is). Ohhhh chores! Currently, blogging and organizing my life over a smoothie bowl. Catch ya later.

Reunion

Last night I met up with my friend Claire, who I met at the Fashion Institute of Technology. We lived together while we were in college and she moved to California after graduation. She came to visit home and NYC for the week. I was so excited to see her!

We went to one of our old favorites, Chat ‘n Chew.

Love this place! First up was drinks. Claire got the flirtini and I ordered a red wine spritzer (Cabernet and diet coke) as the waitress looked at me like I was drunk already. Claire got her usual grilled cheese with sweet potato fries, while I went with the special Taco Fiesta salad. It was actually quite healthy if you didn’t eat the large fried tortilla bowl it came in! I obviously dug in before I got a chance to take a picture of the plating.

This salad consisted of greens, cajun grilled chicken, tomato, avocado, green beans, carrots, shredded cheddar, and crispy tortilla. I subbed the ranch dressing for plain old oil and vinegar, and didn’t eat the tortilla bowl.

I cleaned the rest of my plate though and was super full, but not too full for dessert. We walked over to Pinkberry after dinner.

The problem with this stuff is that I could eat a large in about 5 seconds. Instead, I went with the small original flavor topped with honey almond granola, dark chocolate chip crisps, and mango, and ate it in 3 seconds.

Claire brought me a present from her work. She gets a discount on Current/Elliott and brought me these cute cut off green jean shorts!

I obviously forgot to take a picture and do not have them near me, but I’m sure I’ll be wearing them this weekend. Thank you Claire bear! 🙂

We said goodbye, but only until Friday! I am going to meet her after work again before she leaves to head back to Cali.

I need to get out to California soon to visit this lady! Anyone have any cheap flight suggestions to Santa Ana or Long Beach airports from NYC/NJ?

Bridal Shower Recap

I have been M.I.A. all weekend, clearly, so I figured I’d recap my friend’s bridal shower. I was gone Friday night through Sunday and unfortunately still haven’t caught up on my sleep due to my boss asking me to come in an hour early to work this morning.

The shower turned out beautiful and we were happy that Carrie enjoyed all of the work we put into it. We each brought a dish and ended up with a great menu consisting of chicken salad with grapes & pecans, asparagus and green beans with lemon basil dip, salad with blackberries, ham biscuits, fruit salad, caprese skewers, and a whole slew of appetizers that I unfortunately forgot to snap a picture of. We had cheese, veggies, crackers, hummus, shrimp cocktail, etc.

Drinks included wine and the lemon basil mojito that I made. I think the picture below is mainly pellegrino being that we all had a few drinks before lunch and switched to water for a bit!

The bride opened her gifts from Pottery Barn & Williams -Sonoma. We also got her a gift from the bridesmaids that included a wine tour on their honeymoon which is an African safari! So cool, right? The theme of the shower was safari chic, so we all wore printed dresses. We also did a “wishing well” where guests brought a bar item to complete the bar in their apartment.

I wish I got a picture of the full spread, there were so many gifts! Her soon to be mother-in-law is a photographer so when she posts all of her photos I will have to give an update! We also made Carrie a bow hat and got her a sash, which she clearly loved.

We then enjoyed a great spread of desserts including chocolate covered strawberries, lemon tarts, and cake. The cake was an orange flavor and I thought I wasn’t going to like it. I am not one for creamsicle and I normally enjoy chocolate cake, but this was to die for!
 

We then headed to the backyard to have some fun on the zipliner!

All guests left with a favor – little bags of chocolate covered pretzels with a cute note.

After the shower, we cleaned up, took a nap, and had leftover food and drinks before heading out. We ended up going to a deck bar with a fun band. We obviously made sure that the bride was pulled up on stage!

We got home after 1 AM and polished off the rest of the cake and leftovers.

Sunday

We woke up early and hit the road after a quick breakfast that included fresh fruit, coffee, and cinnamon toast crunch bagels from Panera Bread (yum!). It was about 2 hours away, so by the time I got home I was starving and met Joe for our usual Sunday pizza. I had a great weekend overall, but just didn’t get enough sleep! Oh well, you’ll have that sometimes! 🙂 I woke up at 4:30 this morning to get in a quick run before having to come into work super early, as mentioned above. Speaking of, I have to get back to that!

Strawberry Shortcake Smoothie

I was on a mission after work to find buttons for my trench coat. I have had the coat for years and I love it but all of the buttons are loose or have already fallen off. I decided to goto M&J Trimmings in midtown and pick out some new tortoise shell buttons to go with my trench. I dropped it off at the tailors on my way home and cannot wait to pick it back up on Friday! It is going to be a rainy week here so it stinks that I won’t have it.

Anyway, I was craving a smoothie for dinner tonight since I had a big lunch. I got the idea to make a strawberry shortcake smoothie.

I blended it up and topped it with a dollop of cool whip, a sliced strawberry, chia seeds, and flax meal. Of course I added a leftover chocolate covered strawberry from this weekend, just because!

The wheat germ and cinnamon gave it a dough-ey taste, but next time I think I’ll try it with oats. I needed some nut butter in my life so I also had some spoonfuls of this:

I stopped at Target after work on Friday and while I was browsing the food aisles I came across their Archer Farms brand almond butter for only $3.99! That’s so cheap for almond butter and it’s all natural. The only ingredient is roasted almonds.

Tomorrow

I have a foot doctor appointment before work to get my orthotics refurbished. I’m pretty sure they’re on their last limb.

I don’t even think I can count the amount of miles I ran on these things in the past year considering I run almost 20 a week. I have just been to lazy to take them– and it’s free too! I hope it doesn’t take too long so I don’t have to run without them that long. I have them because of the way my feet hit the ground near my toes (like the ball of my foot sort of). The tendons get inflamed and I had to have cortisone shots a few times before getting these orthotics. They are lifesavers!

I have a phone date with one of my best friend’s Claire now. She moved out to California (hense the late date –9:30pm) two years ago and I miss her so much! We graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology together (see below). She is coming to visit in two weeks so I’m sure you’ll be reading about it on here.

Miso Sick

Last night after work, I met my friend Kristina and we got mani-pedi’s at a new nail salon that had a Groupon special!

This picture was obviously taken from the bed today. I started feeling sore all over my body last night while at work and during our salon session. I ended up going out to eat anyway because we had plans with our friends Mike and Carrie (who are engaged and Kristina and I are both in the wedding this summer) to goto a new Hibachi place in town. We had an 8:00 reservation but did not get seated until 8:30.

I ordered soup to start, hoping that it would make me feel a little better.

Then, I ordered scallops and shrimp. I know they always give you 2 appetizer shrimp but that’s not enough for a shrimpaholic. I dug in before I got this picture. They were a little stingy with the veggies if you ask me.

I wish I didn’t feel so sick because I would have enjoyed it a lot more. I stopped in the restaurant to see Joe after because he was closing, and rushed home. I literally plopped right into bed with the heating pad and fell asleep at 10:30.

I woke up around the same time today and still felt like I could sleep for days. Luckily Joe was able to sleep in with me and since he was tired, we both skipped the gym. I can’t believe I had a relapse that now feels like the flu! I probably should have taken it a little more easy the past few days.

Tomorrow, there is  the Hoboken Art and Music Festival, which happens twice a year and I don’t want to miss it! It’s so nice to walk around, especially when the weather is nice (70 tomorrow!). Plus, there is a cake ball stand that I can’t get enough of! Carrie and I had plans to goto Brunch at Joe’s restaurant and walk around, so I am resting up all day today so I can go tomorrow.

Luckily, I am having a cleaning lady come on Monday while we are at work. That got me out of doing laundry and cleaning today so I can rest. I still have to run to the grocery store though. How much do you think I would have to pay her to do that too??? 😉
