Category Archives: Out to Eat

Reunion

Last night I met up with my friend Claire, who I met at the Fashion Institute of Technology. We lived together while we were in college and she moved to California after graduation. She came to visit home and NYC for the week. I was so excited to see her!

We went to one of our old favorites, Chat ‘n Chew.

Love this place! First up was drinks. Claire got the flirtini and I ordered a red wine spritzer (Cabernet and diet coke) as the waitress looked at me like I was drunk already. Claire got her usual grilled cheese with sweet potato fries, while I went with the special Taco Fiesta salad. It was actually quite healthy if you didn’t eat the large fried tortilla bowl it came in! I obviously dug in before I got a chance to take a picture of the plating.

This salad consisted of greens, cajun grilled chicken, tomato, avocado, green beans, carrots, shredded cheddar, and crispy tortilla. I subbed the ranch dressing for plain old oil and vinegar, and didn’t eat the tortilla bowl.

I cleaned the rest of my plate though and was super full, but not too full for dessert. We walked over to Pinkberry after dinner.

The problem with this stuff is that I could eat a large in about 5 seconds. Instead, I went with the small original flavor topped with honey almond granola, dark chocolate chip crisps, and mango, and ate it in 3 seconds.

Claire brought me a present from her work. She gets a discount on Current/Elliott and brought me these cute cut off green jean shorts!

I obviously forgot to take a picture and do not have them near me, but I’m sure I’ll be wearing them this weekend. Thank you Claire bear! 🙂

We said goodbye, but only until Friday! I am going to meet her after work again before she leaves to head back to Cali.

Rando hair decided to stick out (on my forehead), but still a good picture of us.

I need to get out to California soon to visit this lady! Anyone have any cheap flight suggestions to Santa Ana or Long Beach airports from NYC/NJ?

Lemon Basil Mojitos

Last night, Joe and I prepped the infused vodka for the Lemon Basil Mojitos that I will be bringing to my friend’s wedding shower this weekend. We muddled basil leaves, cut up lemons, and agave nectar and added it to 3 bottles of vodka in a mason jar. This will infuse until Saturday when I bring it to the shower and add the club soda.

I know that mojitos are typically rum, this is a specialty drink at Joe’s restaurant that Carrie (the bride to be) loves, so we wanted to make it for her.

After we made the infusions, we made smoothies and had “dinner” together. Joe had a sprinkle massacre. I don’t even know how it happened. Typical. It’s fine, he just sweeped them all into his bowl anyway.

This Morning

I still feel like I haven’t caught up on sleep from the night before. I snoozed a little extra but still got in a 3 mile run and a leg workout. I made a quick protein smoothie to hold me over before what I considered my real breakfast. I had oatmeal on my mind all day yesterday, specifically from dishes. I opted for a wet bun so I could have an extra 15 minutes to hit up the oatmeal bar before work. Dishes is AMAZING. It’s like an upscale buffet. I was too busy scoping out the oatmeal bar to take a picture. Sad. 😦 I’m sure I will be going back ASAP though.

This little bowl of goodness included steel cut oats, cinnamon, honey, flax seeds, bananas, dishes muesli mix, and a small sampling of blueberries in sauce.

I felt like crying when it was over, but I remembered it’s Friday and what better feeling could you have?

Mother’s Day

My Mom came down Saturday morning to stay for Mother’s Day weekend. We talked, went shopping, walked around NYC, but basically, we ate. We ate a lot of good food! I had a Gilt City credit to Centro Vinoteca, so we went there for lunch on Saturday. It included 2 glasses of wine and 4 appetizers. We were presently surprised by the size of the “piccolino” menu choices. We went with meatballs, zucchini fritters, rice balls, and ricotta with toast points.

Afterwards, we bolted to the gelato place across the street! My Mom went with her usual Tiramisu and I got Nutella.

We were definitely filled enough after that. Enough to go shopping for a few hours! We both got some MAC makeup and I got a refill on my perfume.

Every time my Mom comes to the city she wants Magnolia cupcakes. They came out with mini ones, but they are special order only. We found that out last time and we were disappointed. I made sure that for Mother’s day, we got them! I placed a special order this week, so when we got to the line that is always wrapped around the corner, I told her to wait outside. I brought out a dozen mini’s for us to enjoy later in the day.

Loooove me some Magnolia! 🙂

We enjoyed them with some tea when we got home. After having pizza for dinner, of course!

Today, we got up and got ready to go to brunch at Joe’s restaurant. Since the new menu came out, my mom wanted to try it. We both went with a mimosa and green tea to start.

Followed by the muffins they always bring out pre-appetizer/entree…

Which we slathered this yummy stuff on…

My mom went with the tuna nicoise salad for her appetizer, and I chose the blueberry greek yogurt with granola.

For our brunch entrees, my mom got the smoked salmon with creme fraiche on a bagel (soooo good!) and I got the asparagus and lump crab quiche (much much better than I expected!)

Our waitress Lindsay then sent out a cake with strawberries, which we ate too fast so no picture was taken! Joe covered our brunch (he was working today) which was really nice. He always covers when my Mom and I come to eat there. We go because the food is always so good and I feel bad that he always pays. Especially when I am trying to take my Mom out for Mother’s Day here! 😉 Well, she enjoyed the cupcakes and makeup I bought her anyway!

We then spent some quality Mom and daughter shopping time at TJMaxx….and the grocery store! haha!

I left with some mason jars, an apron, and some new workout tanks. Which, by the way, I cannot wait to get back to the gym tomorrow ! One week was a long time with no exercise for me! It’s going to feel really good to go back after having this break. Overall, I think it was a good thing to make sure I am back to my healthy state! No more antibiotics after today.

I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day. Now, I am off to cook some dinner for when Joe gets home. Grilled Pizza? Hmm..You’ll see tomorrow!

Rip Van Winkle

I awoke this morning to Joe calling me “Rip Van Winkle”, the guy who slept for 20 years. I literally hadn’t moved from the bed since Friday night, except to attempt the grocery store. I cannot believe the amount of pain my body was in.  I had the heating pad on my back and the ice pack on my neck and head. Is this the flu? Sinus infection? Relapse of the cold? I still don’t know. In my stupidity, I still attempted to meet my friends at the Festival today. It was hard to get a picture where you could see everything, but it’s basically 8 streets of art vendors and fried food like sausage sandwiches, fried oreos, etc.

Hoboken Art and Music Festival

We stopped at Ralph’s for some italian ice. I got peanut butter and nutella mixed together with sprinkles on top. The nutella actually had hazelnuts in it. AMAZING!

This then led me right to my bed. My soreness and head hurting came back in full swing. The same thing happened yesterday when I ran to the grocery store. The second I got back, I was bed ridden for the night. When will this end? 😦

It comes and goes, and I am having a good hour at the moment, but I am going to rest some more so I don’t have to waste another vacation day tomorrow at work.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Miso Sick

Last night after work, I met my friend Kristina and we got mani-pedi’s at a new nail salon that had a Groupon special!

This picture was obviously taken from the bed today. I started feeling sore all over my body last night while at work and during our salon session. I ended up going out to eat anyway because we had plans with our friends Mike and Carrie (who are engaged and Kristina and I are both in the wedding this summer) to goto a new Hibachi place in town. We had an 8:00 reservation but did not get seated until 8:30.

Me, Carrie, and Kristina at Carrie's Engagement party last Summer

I ordered soup to start, hoping that it would make me feel a little better.

Then, I ordered scallops and shrimp. I know they always give you 2 appetizer shrimp but that’s not enough for a shrimpaholic. I dug in before I got this picture. They were a little stingy with the veggies if you ask me.

I wish I didn’t feel so sick because I would have enjoyed it a lot more. I stopped in the restaurant to see Joe after because he was closing, and rushed home. I literally plopped right into bed with the heating pad and fell asleep at 10:30.

I woke up around the same time today and still felt like I could sleep for days. Luckily Joe was able to sleep in with me and since he was tired, we both skipped the gym. I can’t believe I had a relapse that now feels like the flu! I probably should have taken it a little more easy the past few days.

Tomorrow, there is  the Hoboken Art and Music Festival, which happens twice a year and I don’t want to miss it! It’s so nice to walk around, especially when the weather is nice (70 tomorrow!). Plus, there is a cake ball stand that I can’t get enough of! Carrie and I had plans to goto Brunch at Joe’s restaurant and walk around, so I am resting up all day today so I can go tomorrow.

Luckily, I am having a cleaning lady come on Monday while we are at work. That got me out of doing laundry and cleaning today so I can rest. I still have to run to the grocery store though. How much do you think I would have to pay her to do that too??? 😉
